Episode 10, Season 2 - June 20, 2018
In the final episode of Season 2, we open with a talk about the importance of the urban forest canopy and the treeOcode Niagara program. We welcome a return visit from Dr. Marilyne Jollineau from the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies at Brock University and discuss the Enviromental Sustainability Research Centre and the newly launched Brock/Lincoln Living Lab. And it's the end of an era as we say so long, farewell, auf weidersehen, goodbye to RJ as she moves along to the next chapter of her life as a sparkly new Brock University graduate. Congratulations RJ! We'll miss you!

This week's guest, Dr. Charles Hostovsky, describes his path through the public and private sector to the world of academia. We discuss urban planning, gentrification and sustainability. Darren and RJ chat about Darren's new bike, the Niagara College GIS program and the extensive history of Thesis projects completed. The show wraps up with a run down of the presentation by Dr. Laurence Steven - "Turney's Crossroads: A Portrait Through Time"
Episode 8, Season 2 - April 18, 2018
This episode welcomes three students to the studio. Alia McIntosh from the Niagara College GIS/Geospatial Management program discusses strapping tiny GPS units onto birds and her thesis project for the Evergreen Cemetery Company in Lynedoch , Norfolk County. Brock University Earth Science Paleolimnology Masters Candidate Paul Michael Pilkington talks about his research and his path to the Masters program. Fourth year Brock Geography student and 2017/18 ESRI GIS Scholarship winner Kyle Rankin chats about his project utilizing GIS in sports analytics. To kick it all off, RJ and Darren discuss the Brock Tourism Networking Event and the effectiveness of round table networking, as well as Darren's new found excitement about the Historic Welland Canals guided hiking tours. It's all wrapped up with an extended Events Calendar courtesy of Earth Week!

In this episode we mourn the loss of Waldo Tobler - founder of the First Law of Geography. We chat with Colleen Beard - Head of the Map, Data & GIS Library at Brock University and learn about her Welland Canals project. And AllTrails - Access 50,000+ trail maps and track your stats - total distance, total elevation, moving time among other stats.
Episode 6, Season 2 - Feb 21, 2018
On this episode we welcome Brock University Masters Candidates Brent Thorne, Alyssa Davis and Kristen Shaver. Our discussion with Brent centers on his research at Old Crow Flats in the Yukon to understand why changes are happening faster in Arctic regions than in other regions of the world and how land cover around a lake impacts that change. Alyssa and Kristen talk about the adventures of their research on fluid inclusions in halite from 450-330 million years ago. What can trapped gases tell us about Earth of the past? Darren and RJ talk about GeoGames in Quebec, the Fitzgerald Neighbours coffee pour-over, the Winter Olympics and the recent National Geographic story on the use of LIDAR and the discovery of Mayan ruins in the Guatemalan jungle.

Our final episode of 2017 welcomes Dr. Anthony Shaw - Associate Professor of Geography in the Department of Geography and Tourism Studies at Brock University. We chat about climatology, viticulture and the impact of climate change on Niagara's wine industry, and the interesting field of building climatology. RJ updates us on the wrap up of the first term at Brock and her research project in cultural geography and Darren shares his experience being an interviewee on the Everyday Geo podcast hosted by JB Peron based out of the United States.

Darren and RJ reminisce about Halloween’s past and chat about online maps created by CensusMapper - the Trick or Treat Onslaught Estimator and the Trick or Treat Density Estimator. Episode 5 of the GeoNiagara Radio Show welcomes Trevis Gigliotti and Tyson Morelli of Principal Point Geospatial Solutions - a non-profit organization based out of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. We discuss Remote Sensing the use of UAV's (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and the challenges of navigating the legislation. We also discuss McMaster University's chapter of Geographers Without Borders, an organization with a number of chapters across Canada. Our guest for Episode 4 is Warren Price - Urban Planner with Toronto based Urban Strategies. Warren discusses his educational path and his interesting work as the campus planner for Brock University. He provides insight into what makes work with a post-secondary institution so exciting and delves into the history of the campus plan including an interesting tidbit about the location of Schmon Tower. RJ and Darren also chat about tree planting up in Northern Ontario.
Our guest for Episode 3 is Alex Morrison - Planner at the Regional Municipality of Niagara. Alex discusses his educational path to becoming a Planner, some of the projects he is working on at the Region, and the challenges facing Niagara from a planning perspective. We also introduce the Litterati app. This is an iphone app (android coming soon) created by Jeff Kirschner that is "crowd-source cleaning the planet one piece of litter at a time".
Darren and RJ speak with Dr. Charles F. Gritzner - Professor Emeritus at South Dakota State University. He is the author of the essay "What Is Where, Why There and Why Care?" which has been utilized in numerous geography and education departments across North America for years. They discuss his journey to becoming a geographer, some of the courses he has taught, the challenges of promoting the discipline and an interesting tidbit of information about Canada as it relates to his current location in Brookings, South Dakota.

Episode 1 features an interview with Dr. Chris Fullerton of the Brock University Department of Geography and Tourism Studies. Topics discussed include the history of the department, current research being undertaken, Dr Fullerton's personal research interests, and the challenges facing the Niagara region moving forward. Also discussed are the outreach efforts to connect the department with the broader community.
